What is iberville projects?

Iberville Projects was a public housing development located in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was built in the 1940s and named after Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville, a French explorer and naval officer. The Iberville Projects consisted of low-rise apartment buildings and served as housing for low-income residents in the city.

Over the years, the Iberville Projects became known for its high crime rates, poverty, and lack of proper maintenance. In 2013, the Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) began a redevelopment plan for the area, aiming to transform the outdated public housing into a modern mixed-income community.

The redevelopment project, known as the Iberville Transformation Plan, included the demolition of the existing buildings and the creation of new mixed-income housing, retail space, and community facilities. The new development, known as Columbia Parc, features a mix of affordable housing, market-rate rentals, and homeownership opportunities.

The Iberville Projects redevelopment has been seen as a success story in revitalizing a blighted area and providing better quality housing for residents. It has also been praised for its focus on creating a diverse and inclusive community with a range of housing options for residents of different income levels.
